Lorraine has recently joined our team, to work alongside Kevin as part of the transition project. We asked her to talk a bit about her background and the new role.
“I have worked for many years with children and young people with SEND, both ‘hands on’ and as a SENCO for many years. Mostly recently I was an Independent Supporter for Barnardos working on transferring the old system of Statements to Education Health Care Plans for children and young people up to age 25, providing impartial advice to ensure the child or YP’s voice was heard and the EHC Plans were fit for purpose.
I’m also a qualified therapeutic counsellor (since 2007) and worked a lot providing therapy to parents of children at the school and I still provide counselling for a charity in Chadwell Heath once a week.
My job as a Transition Worker will be supporting 14-17 year olds with SEND to work on a positive transition from secondary school into adulthood.”
