The Janet Brown Award is a permanent reminder of Janet’s work with Crossroads and is presented annually to a Care Support Worker who has ‘GONE THE EXTRA MILE’.
Janet Brown joined our Board in 2007 though she had been known to us previously as she provided training sessions to our staff around children’s epilepsy medication. Janet was the West Lea School Nurse for many years and on retirement became a School Governor there, she was also active in the Guiding movement.
Nominations from clients and fellow workers are accepted and addressed to our Chair, Geraldine Orfeur. The Board of Trustees then decide who will be the lucky winner.
The Winners of the 2018 JANET BROWN AWARD
We are pleased to announce that this year we have three winners of this prestigious award given to our Care Support Workers who have ‘GONE THE EXTRA MILE’.
Nominations are made by those directly receiving our service and fellow team members. Winners are chosen by our Board of Trustees.
This year the Trustees had great difficulty in selecting just one outstanding Care Support Worker, so the Award was presented jointly to MARCELA HEGLASOVA and TERI MONTEIRO.
For the first time, a number of nominations were received this year for one particular Care Support Worker by her Peers.
JOSEPHINE KINGSTON received an Award for her outstanding work recognised by her fellow workers.
Marcela joined our team in October 2007 following a recommendation from a parent of a disabled child. Over the years she has worked with our clients of differing ages and disabilities and has proven to be very caring having particular empathy with children.
“Crossroads was recommended to me. The very next day the manager visited and then Marcela eventually came. She has proven to be absolutely the right person. She has been amazing and I am very impressed and very very grateful to her, as nothing is too much trouble and she so deserves this nomination. She has assisted me with an immense amount of confidential paperwork. The service has been consistent and I feel more confident and more organised in my own home. Thank you to Crossroads for the invaluable service.”
Teri has been a member of our team since 2002 and is a very experienced worker. Prior to joining Crossroads her background was in nursing and working as a Doctor’s receptionist.
“I wish to nominate Teri Monteiro. Throughout the whole year she has been a dedicated and flexible worker. She has accepted very difficult jobs at very short notice. She always acts professionally and in the best interests of our clients. It is a pleasure to have her on our team!”
Josephine became a member of our team in 2005. She has a background in care and family support work. She works with very challenging clients and discharges her duties in a professional and caring manner. She is a very dedicated member of the Crossroads’ team.
“I would like to nominate my colleague Josephine. She is one of the most hardworking and caring carers. She takes her role so seriously, she is so professional. I am proud of my colleague as she is an inspiration to all other care support workers. She does an amazing job with all her clients. I would like to see her receive recognition for her excellence in her work this year.”
WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT – ALL THREE WERE CONGRATULATED and presented with their Award by Jill Raines, Chief Executive, at a staff meeting held on 16th October 2019.
We were also delighted that Janet’s husband, Mike, was also there to congratulate the winners and we are thankful to him for being an avid supporter of our work and he is proud to sponsor the Award in memory of his wife, Janet Brown, who sadly passed away in 2014.
Thank You Mike
